What should I use to spot clean my carpet? This is one of the most common questions we’re asked. While there are really no easy answers to this question because of the broad scope of spots and spills. The easiest answer is this. Try to avoid store bought products! I know this goes against everything we’ve been taught. We’ve all seen the commercials telling us “That’s okay “when someone spills wine or grape juice on the floor. The truth is those products only make the situation worse. They leave a heavy soap residue on your carpet that will attract dirt (this is why the spot looks black a week or two later). The spot will appear to look better in some instances. Unfortunately these products typically set the stain and leave you a big soapy mess that looks terrible. Do your best to avoid them at all costs.
So what should you use?Mighty clean provides you with a free bottle of Mighty Clean Spot out at your appointment. You can use this for your everyday spots. You could also use vinegar and water to spot clean. We recommend whatever you use that you use a wet dry vacuum or a spot cleaning machine (using only water) to extract and clean rinse the spot. If you ever have a question or you just don’t know what to do about a particular spot, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We will walk you through it.
How long will it take for my carpet to dry?Your carpet should typically be dry in less than 12 hours, although there are some outside factors that could extend this dying time. Outside temperature and humidity can play a major role in drying time. Luckily we can control the temperate in our home using our heating / AC systems. Also using a fan to help move the air will speed up the drying process.
I heard carpet cleaning is it bad for my carpet is this true?Absolutely not! That Myth started years ago when there was no way to perform residue free carpet cleaning. When your carpet was cleaned there was always a soapy residue left behind. Hence the statement: my carpets got dirtier after they were cleaned. That used to be true, but not anymore. Using modern cleaning processes and equipment along with proper maintenance at the correct intervals, greatly increases the life of your carpet.
What is the best system to use when having my carpet cleaned?Hot water extraction (Steam Cleaning)
Research indicates that the hot water extraction system provides the best capability for cleaning. This system is commonly referred to as “steam cleaning,” although no steam is actually generated. The process consists of applying a cleaning agent into the carpet pile and using water in the extractor to recover the used solution and soil. This can be done from truck-mounted unit outside the home with only the hose and wand brought inside or by a portable system brought into the home.
Can’t I just clean the carpet myself?Research indicates that the hot water extraction system provides the best capability for cleaning.
Of course you can but we wouldn’t recommend it. The rental units available to the general public unfortunately leave a very heavy soap residue in the carpet which dries sticky and attracts more soil. They also over saturate the carpet. Professional carpet cleaning equipment has more extraction power, higher pressure, and hotter water. This means a quicker drying time and a deeper cleaning without a sticky soap residue. Also professionals understand the equipment, know the proper cleaning agents for the situation at hand, and recognize the differences in fibers and carpet construction.
